This winter has been long and dreary, so I thought I'd blog something I did not get a chance to post last summer.
Fun with boba!
Boba is just a name for balls of tapioca put into a drink called bubble tea. When we purchased the bag pictured, it was called boba and was only just over $2.00 plus around the same for shipping. You can purchase a bag (now labeled WuFuYuan) here
This fun discovered-on-pinterest idea gives kids a sensory experience that won't harm them, and is called 'edible water beads'. I followed these directions from Blog Me Mom.
First, we boiled water to which we added our boba.
As the boba boiled, we stirred carefully.
The finished pearls were shiny and pretty. :)
We split them into separate dishes, and divided the colors. I took the picture a minute too soon, so you can still see the blended colors in each bowl.
Once split, we added food coloring. The finished product were these lovely small batches of colored tapioca pearls. :)
We went outside, poured some water into a plastic drawer, and let the gals go to town. It was SO much fun! They even took the pearls into the pool. lol
Full disclosure, the water did darken, but it was easy enough to drain out and refill. Both Giraffe and Koala loved this experience! Giraffe only tasted one, but Koala ate mouthfuls of the stuff. Oh, yuck! lol
If you do this fun project, try to take the time to separate the colors again before storing. (I put ours in the fridge with a little water so they didn't lose that fun squishy-slimy feel.) We did not separate them, and the next day they were various shades of grayish blackish blue. lol
