Good morning!
For day four I decided to do the sailboat dishcloth from the
Joann Fabric web site. It is pictured below:
Again, I apologize for the dark/dull pictures. I really do need a new camera!
I followed this pattern all the way, stopping to note that the pattern itself doesn't have instructions for the pole up the middle of the sail (although it *is* pictured in red in their picture). I simply pulled yarn through the same stitch I placed the flag in, and slip-stitched my way down the rows, fastening off in the back once I hit the blue yarn. You can see I threaded the yellow through the back of the white to hide it.
The white stripes on the life preserver are not part of the design either. I just thought it kind of needed them. Should I make this pattern again in the future, I may go with a white preserver and red stripes. I would also find a better way to make one. All yarn used was 100% cotton.
I would also use single crochet across the entire boat, rather than the pattern's single crochet with a chain one in between. The sail is much stiffer/more firm than the bottom. I believe that doing all in single crochet would make the entire pattern more consistent.
One more little note - which you may not even need. ;)
When I was working up the boat, the single crochets in between the chains ended up being a little bit tight along the final/top row. When I began working the white into it, I made it a little less time-consuming to work my hook into the tight spaces by using one of Giraffe's huge plastic yarn needles to open the space for me.
It worked out very well! :)
You can see in the photo that I was using my 'Granny crochet hook'. :)
It is one of several she gave me. Like I said on Day One, it is by far the smoothest hook I own. I also feel very connected to her heart when I use it. *having the feels*

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!!! :)
I saw this great little pattern and I just HAD to have it to go with my ship! :)
This is also worked in 100% cotton on the same size H hook.
It works up crazy-fast and is a great addition, I think. :)
